Sweater Weather…More In November? | Fall Newsletter
| Greetings as we head into the beautiful time of Fall following our delightful summer of pretty great weather to enjoy. The weather in Nepal has become more pleasant with the monsoon season coming to conclusion as fall arrives. Nepal is entering their long festive holiday season. They just celebrated Teej, a celebration women honor together, sans men. There are concerns more outbreaks will occur in the beleaguered country concerning Covid and now the 2nd wave called Delta, and the 3rd variant called Mu. Their holiday time places more risk upon them as they gather for celebrations, and visit, where they have close contact frequently to bring gifts. |
| Sadly, their hospitals are not always equipped with oxygen or other common supplies to alleviate the suffering of any of the Covid strains. Entering Nepal is a mandatory 14 day quarantine. Those going to other countries if they can get a visa have a minimum 14 day quarantine too. Naturally, R Star willn’t be traveling to Nepal this year which is certainly inconvenient. Luckily, others are overseeing our projects at this time. |
A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD Dear Donors, Friends, and Followers,Our CEO/Founder Rosalind lost her mother, August 11th. Some of you know this already as you read the obituary published in StuNews or were in contact with Rosalind. Dorrie-Anne Russell was nearly 96. She notably was one of R Star’s first donors being the proud mom she was of her daughter’s huge undertaking in Nepal and sundry other project R Star engaged in the early years. (Meeting local homeless needs, prison work with inmates on a one-to-one basis to name just two other large endeavors).Dorrie-Anne helped with last year’s Christmas card labeling as one of her last active ways to serve R Star. Service to the poor and dismissed population was something Rosalind feels her mom taught her, caring for others, lending a hand where possible to lift women in particular. For Rosalind, the lessons grew to her doing work in Nepal as we know, and support. Dorrie’s favorite project was GOATS because they are so cute!We are ourselves touched by the loss for Rosalind and her two siblings and grandchildren/great- children. Our support is present with cards and gifts to lift as we believe Dorrie would like. I knew Dorrie well, myself. | Our Personal Pad Solution Project We are pleased to share that we have a 2nd shipment departing in October. Sewing will resume as we are able to transport what we have completed and stored. This is such a wonderful project. The women are pleased to have the kits. |
| New Addition to Our Board We are extremely excited to welcome Michael Porto-Gathright to R Star Foundation’s Board of Directors as our wonderful Dr. Alvin Sanders of many years steps out to continue on as our Board of Advisors. |
 For 6 years Michael has been a volunteer helping from fundraisers to techy matters including posting our no more than once monthly newsletters. He is easy to work with and knowledgeable in ways the rest of the Board is not familiar at his level of expertise. Better yet, he is enthusiastic and a true team player. |
| Michael is an entrepreneur with a passion for non-profit initiatives. Armed with over 25 years of extensive experience in management, Michael has a relentless drive to improve his community. He has brought his talents to both small-scale and global non-profit organizations, and public companies. Michael is dedicated to using his skills and knowledge to empower people around him. This has driven him to spend hundreds of hours volunteering for a wide range of faith-based and humanitarian relief initiatives, R star being one of his favorite charities because of passion and integrity. Michael is a proud father and husband. He is a firm believer in corporate responsibility. He is guiding the corporation he works for, Xeebi, to be R Star’s sponsor. Additionally, he has been networking for over twenty years through various tradeshows and organizations—including BNI and Chamber of Commerce. His combination of business sense and communication skills have allowed him to build thriving, long-lasting relationships throughout the industry he serves. Michael was unanimously elected to serve with us on the Board. |
