End of Summer / Labor Day Newsletter

Namaste to you from R Star. We trust your summer has been delightful for you and yours. We have Labor Day Weekend to celebrate the end of summer, the entrance of Fall and school having resumed.

We are enormously excited to share the news to help educate children is coming to fruition because of the research by our Board of Advisor, Siddhartha Silwal. We know the chosen school will be overseen by both Sidd and his family who attended school in that area in their youth. Sidd’s family still resides in the area. Sidd travels there often for his business to import beautiful Nepalese items.

The educational program/project is in process as I write.  R Star is buying computers to serve over 173 students at Shree Sansaridevi Basic School Located at Namo Buddha, Methinkot, Kavre Nepal.

R Star has always known that education is the way to lift the under-developed country of Nepal’s people. We were devastated to close our school about 3 years back, Top of the World-Nepal after 10 years of a successfully running it to serve the children, females especially. It is considered unsafe for females to reach a government school.  The rural areas remain plagued with the extraordinarily high illiteracy rate with females.  Boys are generally educated.

The school R Star built in Wojethar had to be closed because of the 2015 quakes damage. We did reopen within 3 weeks after the quakes whereas Nepali schools in the quake areas didn’t open for 6 months or longer. The children were under canopies because of the severely damaged rooms. Eager children were engaged with learning while their parents scrambled to recover after the quakes. Our desire to educate continues.

The project is a community run school, not a government school. Dell computers, a printer, a 85” smart TV screen for the teacher to use for teaching, as well as installation and desks is our gift to them.  The computer room is already in place at the school.  We are supplying fine equipment for the children to soar even in the neglected rural areas where education remains minimal.

We have added a few photos showing the actual school to enjoy, photo credit going to Sidd Silwal.

On another project created by the President of R Star, Michael Porto-Gathright, we were connected to an award winning video film company led by Geronimo of t zikin productions and Javier Mendoza of VoteSMS.  What an honor to be selected for the interview in a professionally setup studio.  The video can be seen on social media platforms, or use the link below.

We welcome those of you who will share the video on any platform because that gives us more exposure to share our past and current efforts you have supported.

We are often asked when a return trip will take place. Mid-November is being set up for Rosalind to depart. You are invited to participate in any of the costs for the trip.

If you are interested in learning more about our efforts to lift women and children or in joining with us, contact us.

Thank you, Rosalind
